The 2022 seminar will include an address from the Chairman highlighting legislative and Board Rule changes in addition to the annual case law update from local administrative law judges, claimants’ and defense attorneys explaining recent developments in Georgia law. Additionally, the Public Education Committee – composed of attorneys and other workers’ compensation industry experts – will make their innovative and energetic presentations including an interactive discussion of the posted panel and how to avoid pitfalls to ensure injured workers receive proper medical care. A special segment will feature a panel led discussion to identify and address issues that arise during a claim, from early investigation to claim closure for a number of injuries that can impact the management and cost of the claim. Finally, a panel of experts will address Covid-19 as a workers’ compensation claim and how to navigate the system to properly care for these uniquely injured workers.

The State Board of Workers’ Compensation was established in 1920 by the Georgia Legislature and serves over a quarter of a million employers in Georgia and over 3.8 million workers. The State Board is funded by assessments from insurance companies and self-insured employers. An employee that is injured on the job and is covered by the law may be eligible for replacement of a portion of lost wages, medical payments, vocational rehabilitation services and other benefits.
